J&J Painting & Handyman Services

This week’s featured business is J&J Painting & Handyman Services. You can find their ad in the Painter category of the Home section. I interviewed the owner, James Rodiguez, and got to learn a little more about him and his business. Take a look at the interview below and get to know the face behind the business:

Tell us a little about yourself:

Well, my name is James Rodriguez. I was born in Lockney, Texas. My parents moved to Lubbock when I was one year old. I’m the youngest of four children. I have one brother and two sisters. I was raised here in Lubbock, and I went to school here at Monterey High. I’m 43 years old. I have an 8-year-old son that I’m raising alone and have been since he was 4 days old. I also have two older daughters, 20 and 21, both in college; one goes to Texas Tech, and the other goes to South Plains College.

How long have you been in this business?

I’ve been in business for just a little over a year, but I’ve been doing remodeling for over 20 years.

What’s your favorite part about your business?

The best part of my job is the satisfaction of the customer when I’m done because I take pride in my work.

Do you have any hidden talents (or favorite hobbies)?

My hidden talent is I’m an excellent cook. My hobbies are fishing and camping.

If you had a free weekend and $2,000 to spend, what would you do?

If I had $2,000 I would take my children on vacation.

What’s the best business advice you’ve ever received?

The best business advice I’ve ever received is to be punctual because it reflects your work and what the customer thinks about you when you first meet.

Here are a few pictures from some of his past painting projects.
