1st Choice Fencing – Eric Riffe

This week’s featured business is 1st Choice Fencing–a Lubbock fence company that is second to none.

1st Choice Fencing started out of the garage of a husband-and-wife duo that had a desire to work together, use their hands, and be their own boss. Over the years, the business has grown from a couple of drills and a 2-man auger to a growing business that has built thousands and thousands of feet of fence, including multiple large-scale commercial jobs.

Here are a few of our favorite pictures from past jobs. To see more, make sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram!

Take a second to learn a little more about Eric, the man behind the biz:

Tell us a little about yourself:

I am Eric Riffe. I’m a Texas Tech graduate and have lived in Lubbock since 2007. I married my wife, Jordan, in 2011, and we welcomed our son, Cohen, into the world in 2016.

When did you start your business?

We started building fence a little while before we started our business, but the business start date was in February of 2014.

What is your favorite part of your business?

My favorite part of the business fluctuates.  I like to be the guy that converses with customers, makes that connection, sells himself and the business, but I also like to be the guy digging the post holes, and running the nail gun.

What’s your favorite hobby?

My favorite hobby would have to be watching Texas Tech sports.  I get animated – sometimes too animated, but I enjoy the thrill of getting that win.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Lubbock?

My favorite restaurant in Lubbock would have to be Brisas seafood, but I don’t get the seafood; I am a beef guy, and their ribeye is fantastic.

If you had a free weekend and $2,000 to spend, what would you do?

I like going to the horse races in Ruidoso.  It’s a nice little getaway for a weekend.  In contrast to that, I also love the beach; it’s just a long drive away.

What’s the best business advice you’ve ever received?

Surround yourself with people that are smarter than you.  I like surrounding myself with people that have weathered the storm, and maybe know how to navigate it a little better than I could alone.
